Zuckerberg quietly buries Metaverse

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has quitely buried the ‘future of technology’ – the Metaverse – as the tech giant focuses on AI.

The Metaverse was a virtual social platform that allowed users to interact with each other in real-time, as well as attend live events and concerts, using specialized glasses and virtual-reality headsets.

Confident in the Metaverse as the future, Zuckerberg had invested time and money into the idea, only to be proven wrong with the launch and hype of AI programs like ChatGPT.

Reality Labs housed all Metaverse projects and had a resource allocation of nearly $24 billion alone, thus, the loss of failed idea must be immense, as the CEO rushes to focus on generative AI.

In a Facebook post, he said that “We’re creating a new top-level product group at Meta focused on generative AI to turbocharge our work in this area.”

“In the short term, we’ll focus on building creative and expressive tools,” he wrote. “Over the longer term, we’ll focus on developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways.”

Though the company will continue to produce VR headsets, it will now be for a more niche market especially gamers, as the Metaverse is quietly taken down.
