What vitamin source derives from sunlight? How does it help?

The primary energy source for plant growth is thought to be sunlight. They transform solar energy into chemical energy that is necessary for their survival.

In a similar way, it also benefits human health and strength. But which vitamin is obtained from sunlight?

In spite of the fact that the sun emits UV radiation that can harm human skin, cause sunburns, and possibly even skin cancer, a report from USA Today claims that the light also aids in the body’s defence mechanisms against a variety of viral ailments.

One of the 13 important vitamins for a healthy human body, Vitamin D, is also found in the sun.

What makes vitamin D essential?
According to Harvard Health Publications, exposure to sunlight triggers chemical processes that aid in the body’s production of vitamin D.

The National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Office of Dietary Supplements explained that after the energy was transformed into chemicals, the liver and kidneys hydroxylated the substances to make them ready for vitamin D.

According to NIH, when it is produced in a suitable quantity, it aids in the absorption of calcium, which is necessary for the health of bones, muscles, and the prevention of cramps and spasms. Inflammation is reduced by vitamin D, which also supports the immune system and metabolism.

Deficiency of Vitamin D
As a vital component of human health, its absence also results in bone and muscular disorders, which makes people more susceptible to infections of all kinds. According to Harvard Health Publications, it causes now-rare bone disorders in children and osteomalacia or osteoporosis in adults.

Due of pigmentation’s potential to influence vitamin D production in the skin, non-white people are at a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency.

According to Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, fatty fish, liver, and fortified foods are excellent sources of vitamin D.

Milk and orange juice are also excellent sources of this vitamin.

Mayo Clinic advises people who are unable to consume a diet high in vitamins and get enough sunlight to take vitamin D pills to make up for the deficiency.

According to Healthline, a vitamin D overdose can raise blood calcium levels, which can produce symptoms including nausea, dehydration, abdominal pain, confusion, and more.

A vitamin D overdose can also result in additional hazards, such as drunkenness.

Added advantages of sunshine

In addition to the vital vitamin, medical professionals have noted a number of additional advantages, such as the creation of serotonin, which is crucial for a positive mood, healthier emotions, and digestion, according to PBS North Carolina.

Also, it has been claimed that exposing the body to sunshine can improve sleep and lower stress levels.

A 2014 study that linked weight loss with exposure to sunlight also indicated that sunlight can aid in the fight against obesity.
