Chinese Premier Li Qiang: China’s Development Brings Opportunities, Stability to the World
During a meeting with President of the European Council Charles Michel, Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized that China’s development presents opportunities rather than risks to the global community. He highlighted that China’s growth contributes to stability in the global industrial and supply chains, rather than causing disruptions.
Premier Li expressed his hope that the European Union (EU) would approach its cooperation with China objectively and rationally, working together to safeguard the favorable environment for China-EU practical collaboration. He noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the EU, and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the EU across various domains, such as green initiatives, trade, economy, and digitalization. The goal is to create new avenues for the development of China-EU relations.
Premier Li stated that China is ready to collaborate with the EU to enhance the reliability and stability of their economic and trade relations, fostering mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. He emphasized that China and the EU share no fundamental conflicts of interest, benefiting from each other’s development, adhering to strategic autonomy and multilateralism, and possessing broad consensus on global issues like climate change.
The Premier urged China and the EU to build mutual trust and address concerns through successful cooperation, emphasizing that such efforts contribute to the common development of both parties, the joint response to global challenges, and the establishment of a multipolar world. He stressed that this approach serves the fundamental interests of both China and the EU, injecting stability and positive energy into the world.
President Michel, in response, affirmed the EU’s commitment to the one-China policy. He expressed the EU’s willingness to strengthen communication and exchanges with China, develop multi-level cooperative relations, and consolidate and strengthen EU-China ties. Michel emphasized the importance of jointly addressing global issues related to climate change, health, and other areas, as well as building an open and multipolar world.
President Michel also underscored that the EU does not aim to contain China’s development, rejects the concept of a “new Cold War,” and opposes taking sides. He expressed the EU’s hope that the forthcoming EU-China summit would yield positive outcomes, highlighting that China’s development is beneficial not only to the EU but to the entire world.
