The reopening of Khunjerab Pass has been praised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who claims that it will contribute to an increase in bilateral commerce between Pakistan and China.
The prime minister praised the action for fostering commerce with “Iron brother China” in a news statement released by the PM’s office. The restoration of the commerce channel between the two sides after the break, he said, was cause for celebration. He said that the reopening of the ancient border crossing will eliminate obstacles that will quicken the speed of construction on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Nawaz Sharif and the Chinese leadership gave the infrastructure network project as a gift of growth and prosperity, and Sharif announced his intention to advance the flagship CPEC project at a faster rate than in previous years.

On Monday, April 3, Pakistan and China reopened the Khunjerab Pass, a crucial border crossing, for trade after a three-year pause.
After safety precautions during the pandemic, the 4,693-meter-high mountain pass was earlier blocked to stop Covid transmission between the two countries, and only emergency aid was sent.
The lengthy closure of the crucial bridge dealt a severe financial hit to the neighbourhood as many people lost their jobs. Chinese and Pakistani officials resolved to increase cross-border trade and business as the world continues to move forward following the Covid outbreak.
The picturesque border crossing is the only land port linking neighboring countries. Both sides started trade and tourism through the border from April 1 to November every year.
