Islamabad, Pakistan: A 56-year-old delivery attendant, Anwar Jamal, is fighting for his life after a company truck met with an accident on November 14. Despite being a loyal employee of Menu (Ready to Eat & Cook Chicken Food Recipe Products) for 15 years, the company has refused to provide medical cover, leaving Anwar’s family to bear the expenses.
The accident occurred when the company’s truck, carrying Anwar and the driver, overturned in E-11. While the driver recovered from his injuries, Anwar suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). He was later shifted to Kulsoom International Hospital, where he remains in a coma.
Anwar’s daughter, Marium, expressed her distress and disappointment at the company’s response. “My father dedicated 15 years of his life to this company, and this is how they repay him?” she said. “It’s not just about my father; it’s about the welfare of all employees who work tirelessly for companies like Menu.”
The company’s management has offered a meager PKR 50,000 as a “goodwill gesture,” citing that there is no provision for medical cover for employees. This amount is a fraction of the daily expenses incurred by Anwar’s family to keep him on a ventilator.
Marium urged the authorities to hold companies like Menu accountable for their negligence towards employees’ welfare. “It’s time for companies to prioritize their employees’ well-being, not just their profits,” she said.
As Anwar Jamal continues to fight for his life, his family and supporters demand justice and accountability from Menu and other companies that neglect their employees’ welfare.
