In light of the labour shortages, more and more non-Asian nations are searching for workers, and Switzerland is also in the running to find foreign specialists for whom it would simplify the visa processes.

The nation, which is well-known for its picturesque views, intends to make it easier for foreigners from third countries to relocate there and begin a new life by obtaining work permits. To that end, the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) has been taking steps to lower the barriers for those looking to immigrate to the nation; by third country, those who are not members of the European Union or the European Free Trade Association are meant (EFTA).

According to a statement from the Federal Department of Economics Education and Research, qualified workers from other countries may be able to apply for a work visa if doing so serves Switzerland’s economic interests.

The procedure was started last year when the Federal Council highlighted the steps that may be made to decrease administrative barriers in addition to quickening procedures to support employees’ relocation to the country through an announcement commissioned by the National Council.

The Federal Council was recently told about the actions that had been taken in what looks to be a follow-up meeting.

“Since February 1, 2023, the cantonal labour market and migration authorities have been able to take into account the situation of those companies that are looking for qualified specialists in occupations that are particularly affected by the shortage of skilled workers. Specifically, in such occupations, they can lay out the requirements for professional qualifications and proof of priority for domestic employees more generously,” the statement reads.
