Renowned Indian poet, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar was greeted with overwhelming applause at the 7th Faiz Festival in Lahore.
The 78-year-old actor spoke at length about languages including English and native languages, such as Hindi, Urdu or regional languages, and the need to treat them all equally. He expressed his love for the poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz.
The esteemed poet believes that language and culture played a role in creating rivalry and animosity between neighboring countries.
He said, “Some of the so-called language saviors on our site say we eliminate that particular word because it doesn’t belong to us, whether it’s Urdu or any other language.
