Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday interacted with King Charles III and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in a two-day Commonwealth leaders’ summit being held in London.

The prime minister commended British officials for their excellent planning of the new king’s coronation ceremony and expressed his gratitude for their assistance during the disastrous floods of the previous year.

PM Shehbaz suggested the creation of a joint commission to strengthen ties between Islamabad and London and expand collaboration in a number of areas.

The Pakistani diaspora in the nation was praised for its contribution to the progress by King Charles III and British Prime Minister Sunak.

The Commonwealth leaders’ meeting was also attended by the Pakistani Prime Minister, who described Charles III’s accession to the throne as “the dawn of a new era and the opening of new vistas and fresh avenues for the remarkable family of nations known as the Commonwealth,” according to a statement from the PM’s office.

Sharif also urged leaders to revitalise the Commonwealth and give it a deeper sense of purpose and ever-greater synergy.
