The National Skills University Islamabad (NSU), an International Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, will observe World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) 2023. Since 2014, this day has been celebrated every year on the 15th of July with a unique theme. This year’s WYSD theme is “Skilling Teachers, Trainers, and Youth for a Transformative Future.” According to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, “Equipping young people with quality education, training, and skills is essential. This World Youth Skills Day reminds us that teachers stand at the forefront of this great global effort.”

The first-ever skills university in the public sector in the federal setup in Pakistan was established in 2018. With the arrival of the Founding Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, the university initiated an official celebration of this day in July 2020. According to the Vice Chancellor, we will be celebrating this day, aligning with the theme chosen for this year. All faculty, trainers, and students will discuss the success stories of their best practices in providing skills education to Pakistani youth over the past three years.

The NSU is one of the fastest-growing skills universities in Pakistan, attaining national and international recognition in the shortest possible time. Besides having the unique distinction as the UNESCO/UNEVOC center, this university has won UNESCO-UNEVOC Coaction Initiative awards in 2022 and 2023, respectively. In the year 2022, the university faculty and scholars had an opportunity to work with six other countries, including New Zealand, the Philippines, Sweden, Tanzania, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates, on a joint project related to “Future Foresight Institutional Capacity for Post COVID-19 World” The current year award on skills education digitalization is with Shenzhen Polytechnic University, and institutions from Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

The NSU offers a joint degree in mechanical engineering technology with a Chinese university besides ongoing national programs in other technologies, including biotechnology, civil, and computer. electrical, information, management, and medical laboratory.
