KOICA Showcases Clean Water Success Story at COP29 for Pakistan in Baku

Baku, Azerbaijan: At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29 Baku Azerbaijan), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, at Pakistan Pavilion. Pakistan proudly presented a notable achievement in clean water access, facilitated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC). The event was graced by high-ranking officials, including President KOICA Mr. Chang Won Sam, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister. Also Deputy Director of the KOICA Pakistan Office Mr. Taejin Jeon alongside made presentation regarding this significant initiative. The Conference of the Parties (COP) has emerged as one of the most significant international forums addressing the pressing issue of climate change. This conference will provide an opportunity for world leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to evaluate progress since COP28 and to recommit to ambitious climate goals. COP29 are set to focus on several critical areas: emissions reduction strategies, financing for climate adaptation and mitigation, and fostering cooperation among nations. COP29 represents a vital step in the ongoing battle against climate change, calling for comprehensive commitments and collaboration among nations to safeguard our environment for generations to come. The KOICA project, aligned with the overarching themes of COP29, underscores Pakistan’s resolute commitment to tackling water quality issues and fostering sustainable development. Significant advancements in water quality infrastructure, comprehensive training programs, and enhanced monitoring and reporting mechanisms have been implemented, benefitting thousands across the nation. Mr. Chang Won Sam President KOICA remarked, “We are thrilled to share this success story with the global community at COP29. Our partnership with Government of Pakistan through Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination has been instrumental in driving progress on Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) in Pakistan.” During the bilateral meeting that had been made between KOICA President and MoCC &EC Coordinator, at Pakistan Pavilion of COP29 the consensus was made to maintain this good relationship for sustainable development. They also promised to have a future collaboration in areas like Combating Smog in Pakistan, Capacity building on Carbon Markets and Article 6 to ease the climate crisis. The showcase at COP29 included a detailed presentation, a video documentary, and a constructive discussion with donors and stakeholders, focusing on the project’s notable achievements and its potential for replication in various regions worldwide. This initiative not only highlights Pakistan’s dedication to clean water access but also serves as an inspiring model for sustainable development initiatives globally.
